Monday May 23...Day 7

Day 7 May 23, 2011

It’s a good thing that they change the rug each day in the elevator. It is very easy to lose track of what day it is. Especially since our days seem the same now. I do have a small calendar attached to the mirror of our room too that helps us keep track of the date.

Another day of rough seas!! It seems like it might be this way the rest of our trip until we arrive in port in Ireland. The captain came on at lunch time today and said that we are in the middle of a depressionary system and it will follow us or we will follow it all the way to Ireland. He also said that the waves are 15 feet high. Those are pretty good swells. He changed course from NE to E to try and have us going a different direction with the wind. Either we are getting used to it or the pills are working, but it didn’t seem to bother me so much today.

We let the different time changes get to us. After breakfast we went back to bed and all three of us slept until 10:30. We felt a lot better after that.

Mike and Emily went to the weight room. I went for a walk on the deck. But it was too wet to walk and the boat was shifting too much for me to be comfortable.  The pictures of the water really don’t show what it is like. It reminds me of the rolling hills of PA but always in movement. It is very impressive!!

They put us at a table at the window again today and it was interesting to watch the waves as we ate our lunch. We are eating wonderfully well during this trip. The food is delicious and the service is great!!

We do feel a little out of our place on this ship with people who are taking their 27th cruise. I would say that the majority of people on the ship are at least in their 60’s.  There are only 15 kids (we talked to the girl in charge of the children’s area). And there are some very old people on board. We see a lot of canes and walkers and even some electric carts. So, in some ways, we feel right at home :)

It’s been hard, because of the weather, to find a couch or a comfy chair to sit on in the public rooms, so we’ve been spending a lot more time in our stateroom. But when we are out, instead of using the elevator we walk the steps.

One thing I haven’t mentioned are the flowers.  There are fresh flower bouquets everywhere.  Even on our breakfast tray there are flowers in a tiny vase. I took this picture in the ladies’ room. In this particular restroom there are 4 or 5 orchid plants in all different colors.

When we finished dinner we thought we’d go out and look at the water.  When we arrived at the door they had it blocked off, for safety reasons. The ocean’s waves were still so high and the ship was rolling so much, it was dangerous to be on deck.

Mike and I went and checked our internet and also sent my updates.  We read emails and for those that
may know him, we heard that M. Dagon passed away in his sleep, Sunday morning. He was a well known French believer and author and friend of Baptist Mid-Missions in France. Please pray for his wife, Germaine, as she’ll have to cope, alone, now. She doesn’t drive and will need to find other people who can get her where she needs to go.

Emily’s critter. Can you tell what it is?
It is made from one bath towel and one hand towel. So very cute!!

Good night from somewhere between here and there on the Atlantic Ocean!!

I'm so glad the huge waves and the rocking of the ship isn't keeping you in bed. I've been praying a lot about that. I love Emily's elephant and the flowers are beautiful!
