Sightseeing with the Thompsons / Mont Saint Michel

One of our first visits was to Mont Saint Michel in Bretagne (Brittany).  It was a misty/rainy day but we decided to go anyway.  Our first stop was in Caen to eat some seafood.  We found a nice restaurant and practically had a section to ourselves.  It was very nice.

 The Mont Saint Michel is an island when the tide is at its highest.  Otherwise there is sand (wet) all around it. They have redone the entry since the last time we were there (1997).  Instead of parking at the base of the Mont, you now have to park about 2 km away and take a shuttle bus, or walk the passerelle to get there.

It is a fortified city with an abby at the top of the hill.  We walked the ramparts, climbing up and down the steps as we went.  It was fun but very tiring, especially for the "older" people (Mike and me).

We were wet and cold by the time we got back to the cars.  Yes, cars.  We rented a car while they were here so that we could go when we wanted to.  It worked out really nice.  Dan, Micah and Peanut ran all the way back to the cars while the rest of us waited for the shuttle.

We were thankful for hot showers and tea when we got home.
