I could have named this blog "The Seine River--beginning to end!".
Since we have been driving back and forth between Grand-Couronne and Bar-Sur-Seine we cross the Seine river about 4 or 5 times. As we get closer to Bar the river gets smaller and smaller. What I have wanted to do since we arrived here was to drive to the source (beginning) of the Seine. It is about an hour and a half drive from here.
Monday was the perfect day. To start our day out, Emily and I drove to Troyes (35km) away to get SUBWAY. Yes, it is a perfect treat. We came home and picked up Mike and went to a little park where there were picnic tables right beside the Seine. It was beautiful. The ducks came over to see if we had anything to give them. But they didn't know that they were coming towards Americans who very rarely get SUBWAY sandwiches. Not a crumb for them!!

We then drove through a lot of small towns and on some back roads and finally found the beginning of the Seine. There was a (man-made) cave and a statue to mark the beginning. In the pool around the statue we could see the bubbles coming up from the spring. We walked around the little park there. Very French--no bathrooms. And then worked our way home, stopping at McDonald's for ice cream (and other things).

It was a long drive but well worth it. I told Mike that now we need to drive to Le Havre to see the end of the Seine, 853 km from the beginning.

So glad you got to see it. That is so interesting that that tiny little hole would make such a long and huge river (in parts). So very cool and beautiful pictures!!!!
What a fun day. Your sense of humor cracks me up. Can't wait to see it in person!
Happy Anniversary!
